The drive from Delhi to Khatu Shyam

Route: NH48 past Neemrana and Kotputli to Shahpura, then two-lane state roads towards Ringas and Khatu.

The first 200 km are on NH48, past Gurugram, Neemrana, Behror and Kotputli to Shahpura. From there you leave the highway for two-lane state and district roads towards Ringas and Khatu. These are generally in fair condition but pass through villages, with cattle, tractors and unmarked speed breakers along the way. If you prefer bigger roads, continue towards Jaipur and take the Jaipur–Sikar highway to Ringas, which adds some distance. Expect very heavy traffic near the temple on Ekadashi, at weekends and during the Phalgun fair, when vehicles are stopped well outside the village. Avoid driving the rural stretch after dark, and keep an eye on your map for the turn-offs.

Best time to go: October to March, when the weather is mild, with the Phalgun fair in February or March for devotees ready for crowds.
