The drive from Delhi to Neemrana

Route: NH48 through Gurugram, Manesar, Dharuhera and Bawal to Shahjahanpur on the Rajasthan border.

The whole drive is on NH48, a six-lane highway through Gurugram, Manesar, Dharuhera and Bawal to the Rajasthan border at Shahjahanpur. The distance is short, but traffic is the main variable: the Gurugram and Manesar stretch can crawl on weekday mornings and evenings, and construction or monsoon waterlogging around Dharuhera adds delays. Heavy trucks use this corridor day and night, so overtake carefully from the right and watch for vehicles joining from service roads. The fort itself is reached by a short, narrow road from the highway. Start by 8 am on a Saturday, and return either early on Sunday afternoon or late in the evening to miss the weekend rush back into Gurugram.

Best time to go: October to March, when the Aravalli weather is cool enough for outdoor activities.

Driving tips for this route

  • Keep your FASTag recharged; there are toll plazas on NH48 between Gurugram and Neemrana.
  • Avoid weekday rush hours through Gurugram and Manesar; a Saturday start before 8 am is the easiest.
  • In the monsoon, waterlogging around Dharuhera and parts of Gurugram can slow traffic badly, so check a live map first.
  • With the Tata Nexon EV, a round trip of about 250 km is close to its real-world range. Start with a full charge and top up near Neemrana or along NH48 for peace of mind.
  • Day visits to the fort hotel are usually sold as packages, so check terms before you drive up the narrow access road.
